Professional stripping, rust treatment, priming and respraying for exterior and decorative metalwork. From simple garden gates and benches through to ornate period railings and heritage-style removal and refitting.
Old gates, railings, benches and garden furniture often have years of paint build-up, rust and failed coatings. Painting over the top can look tidy for a short time, but it does not properly deal with the layers underneath.
Our workshop process allows us to remove the old finish, clean and prepare the metalwork, treat corrosion where required, prime correctly and apply a fresh durable finish.
We can work on straightforward modern metalwork as well as more detailed period pieces, including ornate gates and railings set into stone, brick or masonry.
Based in Hull, we provide metal restoration services across Yorkshire and further afield by arrangement. Customers can deliver items to our workshop, arrange courier transport, or ask us to quote for collection, removal and refitting.
We also offer door stripping, furniture stripping and wider paint removal services from our Hull workshop.
We strip, prepare, prime and respray pedestrian gates, driveway gates and side panels. We can also carry out small repairs, hinge adjustments and refitting where required.
Railings and metal fencing can be removed, stripped back, cleaned, treated and refinished. This is ideal for flaking paint, rust bleed, failed coatings and tired exterior metalwork.
We restore metal garden furniture including cast iron chairs, tables, benches, patio sets and decorative outdoor pieces, giving them a fresh protective finish.
Cast iron and steel bench ends can be stripped, cleaned and repainted. We can also advise where new timber slats, fixings or repairs may be needed.
After stripping, any remaining rust or corrosion is mechanically cleaned and treated where required before the correct primer is applied.
Where suitable, we can remove and refit gates and railings, including older metalwork set into masonry using lead, mortar or traditional fixing methods.
Older metalwork is often built and fitted very differently from modern gates and fencing. Railings and gate posts may be set directly into stone or masonry using lead, mortar or older fixing methods.
We have experience removing and refitting this type of metalwork carefully, restoring it off site, then resetting it using suitable modern fixing methods where appropriate.
We can also work with traditional lead-set railings and gates where the metalwork has been fixed directly into stone or masonry. Where suitable, these can be carefully removed, restored off site, and refitted using an appropriate modern fixing method while keeping the appearance sympathetic to the original installation.
For listed buildings or protected properties, customers should check whether consent or permission is required before work begins.
Send us photos, sizes and your postcode. We will advise on the best approach and whether removal, transport or refitting is needed.
You can remove and deliver items to us, arrange your own transport, or ask us to quote for removal and collection.
Items are stripped in our workshop tanks to remove old layers of paint and failed coatings from the metalwork.
The metalwork is rinsed, neutralised where required, dried and prepared. Remaining rust is mechanically cleaned and treated where needed.
Bare metal is primed using a suitable metal primer or anti-corrosive primer depending on the condition and type of metal.
The final finish is applied in gloss, satin or eggshell. Where agreed, we can then refit the restored metalwork.
We use quality exterior metal paint systems suitable for gates, railings, fencing, benches and garden furniture.
Depending on the item and the finish required, we can offer heavy-duty gloss, eggshell or other suitable exterior coatings. We can also work with specified colours or designer paint systems where appropriate.
Where a customer wants a particular shade, we can often use a trade paint mixed to a similar RAL or British Standard colour, which can be more practical and cost-effective for exterior metalwork.
We do not usually carry out chemical stripping on site. The best results come from removing the item and processing it properly in our workshop.
Submerging the item allows old coatings to be removed far more thoroughly than basic scraping or on-site painting.
Once stripped, we can inspect the metal properly, deal with awkward corners and prepare the surface before priming.
Proper stripping, cleaning, rust treatment and priming gives the new coating the best chance of lasting.
We are based in Hull and regularly work with customers across Yorkshire, including East Yorkshire, North Yorkshire, West Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.
For suitable projects, customers can deliver items to us, arrange courier transport, or ask us to quote for collection, removal and refitting. We can also travel further afield for larger or more specialist metal restoration projects.
The easiest way to quote is from clear photos and approximate sizes. We can then advise whether the item needs to be delivered to us, collected, removed, refitted or assessed further.
