To restore them properly, those old layers need to be removed as far as practical — not simply sanded flat and painted over again.

How we remove paint from metal

Depending on the item and the coating, we use a combination of specialist chemical stripping, alkaline stripping where appropriate, mechanical abrasion, wire-finishing, rust removal and surface treatment.

This brings the metal back to a clean, sound surface, revealing the true condition underneath and allowing the new finish to bond correctly.

Skilled fabrication repairs where needed

Unlike many paint stripping companies, we do not have to stop at cleaning the metal. Where needed, fabrication repairs can also be carried out.

This is especially useful for older wrought iron gates and railings, where original features are worth saving and sympathetic repair is often better than replacement.

Once the metal is stripped, cleaned and repaired, the finish is everything.

Instead of relying on a quick brush repaint, we can professionally spray metalwork using high-build alkyd oil-based metal coatings, giving a smooth and durable finish suited to outdoor gates, railings and fencing.

For many railing and gate restoration jobs, we prefer a properly applied alkyd paint system rather than powder coating, especially where the metalwork is older, detailed, previously repaired or likely to need future touch-ups.
